Location: Talkeetna Case number: 08-98398 Type: DWLS Text: On 11-28-08 at approximately 2228 hours, Troopers stopped a Kia Sportage at mile 97 of the Parks Highway for an equipment violation. The driver was identified as Richard Pride, age 60 of Willow. Investigation revealed that Pride had a suspended drivers license. Pride was issued a summons to appear in court for DWLS and was also issued two citations. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver. Location: Willow Case number: 08-98569 Type: Motor Vehicle Crash - Injury Text: On 11/29/08 at approximately 1433 hours, Talkeetna AST responded to Mile 71 Parks Highway for a report of a single vehicle rollover. Subsequent investigation revealed that Florence Darien, 36 of Anchorage, was driving her 1995 Ford Escort southbound when she lost control on the icy roadway. Darien's car departed the West side of the highway and rolled one time coming to rest upright facing northbound. Darien was wearing her seatbelt but suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene by Willow EMS and released. Darien's vehicle sustained approximately $4,000.00 damage and was towed from the scene. Darien was not cited for the crash. Location: Willow Case number: 08-98322 Type: Driving While License Suspended (DWLS) Text: On 11/28/08 at approximately 1609 hours, Talkeetna Troopers stopped a 1989 Mercury Cougar at Mile 64 Parks Highway for a traffic violation. Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver, Ashley Bartel, 28 of Willow, was driving with a suspended AK drivers license. Bartel was issued a summons to appear in court for DWLS and two traffic citations. Bartel was released from the scene and his vehicle was released to a licensed driver who was a passenger in the car. Location: Willow Case number: 08-96419 Type: Motor Vehicle Crash - Damage Text: On 11/21/08 at approximately 1247 hours, Talkeetna AST responded to Mile 71.5 of the Parks Highway for a report of a single vehicle crash. Subsequent investigation revealed that David Stewart, 52 of North Pole, was driving a 1998 Dodge pickup southbound while pulling a trailer when he lost control of his truck on the icy roadway. Stewart's truck departed the West side of the highway and jackknifed totaling out his truck and causing approximately $1,500 damage to the trailer. Stewart was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. Stewart was not cited for the crash and was released from the scene. Stewart's vehicle and trailer were towed from the scene. Location: Willow Case number: 08-95580 Type: Motor Vehicle Collision - Moose Text: On 11/18/08 at approximately 1743 hours, Talkeetna AST responded to mile 76 of the Parks Highway for a report of a single vehicle crash involving a moose. Subsequent investigation revealed that Nathan Wilson, 28 of Talkeetna, was driving his 2006 Ford F-350 southbound on the Parks Highway when a moose ran into the road in front of him. Wilson could not stop due to the icy road conditions and collided with the moose. Wilson was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. Wilson's truck sustained approximately $6,000.00 damage and was towed from the scene. The moose was killed in the collision and was donated to a local charity. Location: Willow Case number: 08-95201 Type: MVC-D Text: On 11/17/08 at 1319 hours, AST responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision near mile 68 of the Parks Hwy. Investigation revealed that 64 year old Gayle Schumacher of Talkeetna was driving her black 1995 Ford Explorer North when she lost traction in a corner and crossed the center lane striking 81 year old Willa Harter of Willow in her blue 1998 Dodge Neon. Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt and there were no injuries. Schumacher was given a traffic citation and was released from the scene. Both vehicles were driven from the scene. Location: Willow Case number: 08-95519 Type: No Valid Operator License (NVOL) Text: On 11/18/08 at approximately 1441 hours, Talkeetna AST stopped a 1996 Ford Taurus at Mile 70 Parks Highway for a traffic violation. Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver, Michael Holder, 27 of Willow, was driving without a valid drivers license. Holder was given a summons to appear in court for NVOL and a traffic citation. Holder's vehicle was released to a licensed driver. Location: Trapper Creek Case number: 08-94974 Type: Search and Rescue Text: On 11/16/08 at approximately 1527 hours, Talkeetna AST was notified of two snowmachiners who had gotten stuck and lost somewhere in the vicinity of the Forks Road House off of Petersville Road near Trapper Creek. AST was in cell phone contact with the two adult males identified as Jeremy Locklear, 25 of Wasilla, and Frank Phillips III, 25 of Anchorage, who gave AST basic directions to where they thought there were located. The weather at the time in the search area was extremely heavy snow with limited visibility so the AST helicopter was not able to respond for the search. AST contacted eight volunteer searchers at the Forks Roadhouse who were able to respond to the area and rescue Locklear and Phillips. Locklear and Phillips were transported back to the Forks Roadhouse and did not require any medical attention. Location: Willow Case number: 08-94698 Type: Motor Vehicle Crash, Driving While License Suspended (DWLS) Text: On 11/15/08 at approximately 1407 hours, Talkeetna AST responded to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Bendapole Road and Passthebait Road in the Caswell Lakes Subdivision. Subsequent investigation revealed that Christopher Sweeney, 44 of Willow, was driving his 1997 GMC Sierra on Passthebait Road approaching Bendapole Road when he collided with a 2002 Jeep Cherokee which had just turned onto Passthebait Road from Bendapole Road. The Jeep Cherokee was being driven by Waylon Shandley, 34 of Anchorage. Sweeney, Shandley and a passenger in Shandley's vehicle were all wearing their seatbelts and were not injured. Further investigation also revealed that Sweeney had a revoked AK drivers license. Sweeney was cited as the at fault driver in the crash and was also given a summons to appear in court for DWLS. Sweeney's vehicle sustained approximately $3,500.00 damage and Shandley's vehicle sustained approximately $4,000.00 damage. Both vehicles were driven from the scene by licensed drivers. Location: Trapper Creek Case number: 08-94423 Type: Motor Vehicle Collision - Injury Text: On 11/14/08 at approximately 1424 hours, Talkeetna AST responded to Mile 124 of the Parks Highway for a single vehicle crash with injuries. Subsequent investigation revealed that Carol Kirbac, age 59, of California, was driving her 2005 Ford F-250 truck northbound when she lost control on the icy roadway. The truck departed the West side of the highway and rolled one time coming to rest upright facing southbound. Kirbac and her passenger were both wearing their seatbelts and Kirbac suffered injuries to her back; her passenger was not injured. Kirbac was airlifted to an Anchorage hospital with non life threatening injuries. Her vehicle sustained approximately $5,000.00 in damage and was towed from the scene; investigation continues. Location: Talkeetna Case number: 08-92922 Type: Eluding Text: On 11/8/08 at approximately 2354 hours the AST South Central DUI Enforcement Team responded north on the Parks Hwy. to assist a Wasilla PD Officer that was attempting to stop a vehicle for speeding. The vehicle failed to stop for the officer north on the Parks Hwy. from Wasilla. Troopers deployed tire deflation devices on the vehicle at mile 52 and again at mile 62 of the Parks Hwy. The front two tires were deflated but the operator continued to operate the vehicle at high speeds on the two flat tires. The pursuit was eventually discontinued with officers following the vehicle at a distance with emergency lights turned off in hopes the vehicles speed would decrease. The vehicle continued north on the Parks Hwy. as the front end of the vehicle began to fall apart. Troopers tracked the vehicle by marks made in the pavement from the flat tires and located the vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway near mile 97 of the Parks Hwy. The operator was still in the driver's seat attempting to drive the vehicle but the drive train of the vehicle was no longer operational. The operator refused to exit the vehicle and had to be physically taken out of the vehicle after Troopers were forced to break out windows to gain access to the operator. The operator was identified as Deepak Chaudhary, age 24, of Anchorage. Chaudhary was arrested and turned over to the Wasilla PD Officer who remanded Chaudhary to the Mat-Su Pretrial facility charged with Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer in the First degree. Location: Talkeetna Case number: 08-92927 Type: MVC-Injury Text: On 11/9/08 at approximately 0138 hours the AST South Central DUI Enforcement Team responded to a single vehicle collision near mile 9.5 of the Talkeetna Spur Rd. in Talkeetna. Investigation determined Joseph M. Pride, age 26, of Willow was traveling south on the Talkeetna Spur Rd. in his 2002 Nissan pickup when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel. Pride crossed the center line, entered the north bound ditch, and collided with several trees. Pride suffered from several minor cuts and abrasions as a result of broken glass in the collision. Pride reported wearing his seatbelt and alcohol was not a factor in the collision. Pride was treated at the scene and released. The vehicle was a total loss. Location: Talkeetna Case number: 08-92895 Type: NVOL Text: On 11-8-08 at approximately 2235 hours, Troopers stopped a Chevy S-10 at mile 98 of the Parks Highway for an equipment violation. The driver was identified as Devin Oglend, age 18 of Willow. Investigation revealed that Oglend did not have a drivers license. Oglend was issued a summons to appear in court for NVOL and was also issued two citations. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver. Location: Willow Case number: 08-92790 Type: Driving While License Suspended (DWLS) Text: On 11/8/08 at approximately 1400 hours, Talkeetna AST stopped a 1989 Volvo at Mile 87 Parks Highway for multiple traffic violations. Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver, Joel Cummings, 51, of Wasilla, was driving with a suspended Alaska Driver License. Cummings was issued a summons to appear in court for DWLS and multiple traffic citations. Cummings was released from the scene and his vehicle was released to a licensed driver. Location: Talkeetna Case number: 08-92380 Type: DUI, Violating Conditions of Release Text: On 11-6-08 at approximately 2250 hours, Troopers contacted a female who was passed out in the drivers seat of a GMC truck near mile 13 of the Talkeetna Spur. The driver was identified as Frieda Becker, age 59 of Talkeetna. Investigation revealed that Becker had been driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs. Becker also had conditions of release from a pending case that she was not to consume alcohol. Becker was arrested and remanded into MSPT, where bail was set at $750 cash.
