| What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Midland "You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio. | |

A place where I can post all of my Alaska photos, even those not directly related to Wheatstalk. I spent three weeks in Alaska during the summer of 2005. Some time was spent traveling with Fine-line, some with Jim, Esther, and the Wheatheads at Wheatstalk, and some on my own, including a trip to Denali National Park. I took well over 500 digital images, most of which are displayed on WWR periodically along with those of other shutterbugs from the trip. However, I also have 6 rolls of slides and 6 rolls of film (B&W and color), which have been developed, but I haven't had the chance to share yet. Scanning them in has been a much longer process than I anticipated, and I haven't gotten the results that I had hoped for from my scanner. For some reason, the black and white photos require more processing than the color ones. It has been a learning process to say the least. It's enough to make me want to make the jump to digital, but I like the extra contrast that film provides. I'm caught between two worlds right now with a large investment in older technologies. In any case, this site will give me a place to post them slowly, so check in occasionally for updates. They will be scanned in in no particular order, but posted in the approximate chronological order as they occurred on my trip (new ones will be mixed in as they are scanned).

I've been more or less absent from WWR over the past year. Partly because the site has changed, but mostly because my (work) life has changed. I've been thinking about my WWR friends a lot lately. I long for the days when I worked in a windowless office by myself, with just the company of six servers, when WWR was my link to the outside world, and I came to know many unique, intelligent and charming people who called themsleves Wheatheads. Now, I work in a windowless basement office, beneath the street level of Washington D.C., with a whole bunch of people, and I have what they call "responsibilities." Unfortunately, more responsibilities = less free time.
After hearing it about once every couple of weeks for a year, I recently convinced myself to listen to the 3 Blind Mice Wheatstalk concert from 2005. It brought me back to a fun time when I got to travel and spend time with some old friends whom I hardly knew. That trip was one I am unlikely to forget, and it wouldn't have been the same without the company of my Wheathead pals, both online and in person.
I have said since shortly after Jim invented the internet that a unique community has developed around WWR, unlike any other... anywhere. Like Lake Wobegon, It seems that all of WWR's listeners are better-than-average, and I know that I can almost always count on a better answer to a question by posting it in the chat/collaboration page than by searching Wikipedia.
So, I figured I would just drop in and leave a message for my digital friends to say that I am still alive and kicking, keeping your government running, and I've been thinking of you all. Have a happy Thanksgiving, and a great holiday season.
Stay warm, -Sol

- I will trade you that basement job for one herding hundreds of senior citizens. Couldn't agree with you more in your commentary and I remember the concert in 2005 with equal fondness. As far as keeping the govt running just ensure these folks get their social security checks on time ok? :P Hoonah (talk/contribs) 16:21, November 26, 2008 (AKST)
